My Favourite Time

Autumn is by far my favourite time of the year. There is something about it that stirs my creativity. The colours inspire me and awaken my soul. The quietness of between seasons gives room to breathe and be still. Thankfully, where we live autumn lasts. The days start off hot - late summer continues to hover - but by mid-April the cool evenings and chilly nights have set in.

I thought I might share some of autumn's inspiring creative virtues with you here. So grab a drink and step into the glorious riot of colour that is autumn.

1. Photography

Nothing makes me feel like a  photographer than taking shots of nature in autumn. My phone can never be too full of glorious reds, browns, golds and greens. The evening light casts a golden glow over everything which no filter can capture (in my experience).

2. Clothing

I try and keep a fairly simple, capsule wardrobe but I find that hard in autumn because the weather can be so variable! This year I have embraced my love of autumn colours in my wardrobe. Today I am wearing a jersey maxi dress in burgundy with a rust-coloured shirt over the top. My nails are a deep burgundy. My wardrobe is full of browns, pinks, burgundy and camel and I can't get enough of it!

3. Art

A little painting or creative junk-journalling is always in store during the days of autumn. The leaves give such creative vibes in themselves that I love to try and replicate them with some paint and paper. I also have a weakness for autumn inspired stickers so often use them in my little junk-journal pages.

4. Exercise

Going for a walk or a bike ride during autumn rivals any visit to a museum in my opinion, especially if the deciduous trees are putting on a how. I highly recommend going in the cool, dewy mornings or the golden evenings when everything seems to be a magical world of its own.

5. Cooking

Golden food shines in autumn! Think pumpkin soup, zucchini slice, roast vegetables, creamy pasta and slow-cooked stews. These vegetables are often in season and for good reason. They make nourishing, soul-pleasing meals that in our house, everyone enjoys! Baking wise, nothing beats Anzac biscuits in autumn!

6. Reading

It's always a good time to read in my mind, but autumn offers three of the best conditions: cool enough to snuggle under a blanket with a cup of tea and a book, beautiful soft light by which to read, or warm colourful days to read outside. I naturally gravitate towards books that have a more autumnal cover like these title which I've enjoyed reading lately.

7. Decor

Bring the autumn in with natural decor. So easy yet so satisfyingly pleasing.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you've enjoyed this little burst of creativity during the autumn months. Wherever you are now, I hope nature is inspiring you in similar ways.

Take care of yourselves,
