- Five Classic Books That Never Get Old ~ I've read four of the five books on this list and would have to agree that this selection is timeless. Do you agree? Which books would you add to such a list?
- Holocaust Victim's Opera for Years in Trunk Gets Premiered At Last ~ A heart-warming story, whose title says it all really. It's amazing how we as humans deal with trauma in such creative ways.
- I Bought No New Clothes For Two Years - Here's What I Learnt ~ I recently discovered Kirsty's Youtube and Blog and found it really interesting to see what she says about her No Buy year plus this process of not buying clothes for two years. I'm currently participating in the Cheapskates Club's February No Spend month and really enjoying it! Perhaps I could extend it longer...
- And speaking of clothes, if you are interested in historical women's clothing - in particular corsets - then have a read of Sarah Bendall's article: In Hand-Making 400-year old Corsets, I Was Able To Understand How They Impacted Women. I found it fascinating to read not only a brief history of the corset, but also Bendall's process in re-creating them and the lessons she learnt from them.
- We spoke about the modern adaptations of classics not long ago and this article offers a glimpse into a modern remake of Jane Austen's Persuasion. Read the article, watch the interview and let me know what you think of a 2022 version of an old-time favourite! Preview a New Adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion.
I can't wait to read this book! It looks so interesting and covers such an important, yet under-recorded part of our nation's history. From the blurb:
The Corner Country is the area to the extreme far north west of New South Wales, bound by the Queensland border to the north and the South Australian border to the west. These two borders, part of the great trans-continental wild dog fence, intersect at Cameron Corner.
First published in 2006, Memoirs from the Corner Country takes the reader on a journey through one of the harshest terrains in outback Australia. May Hunt, a Malyangapa woman from Milparinka, made a life for herself and her children where dust storms swirled off the Simpson Desert and gibber-covered plains shimmered in the midday heat.
